Ashdown Brontė Association (A.B.A.)

The Parents Association of Ashdown Lodge and Brontė House School

The last school year 2009 to 2010 was a very busy but extremely successful year for the ABA. At the beginning of the year, Mr Dunn told us about his aim to provide an adventure playground for the children at Ashdown Lodge and Bronte House. The ABA set out with the target of contributing £10,000 towards this project. At the end of the summer term, we were able to present a cheque for this amount to Mr Dunn....but we could not have achieved this without your support and for that we thank every parent, child and member of staff who has attended or helped at one or more of our events.

We are also grateful to a number of parents at the school who work for Barclays Bank Plc. Through their 'matched funding' scheme they have 'doubled' the money we raised at specific events. If any parent works for an organisation which has a similar scheme, please let Mr Dunn know. It is a fantastic way to raise that extra bit of money.

The highlight of last year was undoubtedly Bronte's Got Talent. This was our version of Britain's Got Talent, in the Grove theatre. All teachers, especially Mr Phenny, put an enormous amount of time and effort into this project. The children spent hours perfecting their numbers and performed beyond all expectation on the night. It was a fantastic event and one which we will do again, although possibly every other year.

Let's not forget the fundraising efforts of your children. Each year the children decide on their own charity to support. Last year was Martin House Hospice. The previous year they raised money for the Jolaurabi School in Kenya. Whilst all charities are deserving of our support, it is good for the children at school to see their money go to local charities which do focus on children. The Sponsored walk money kick starts their fundraising efforts and so far this totals in excess of £300. Last year the children raised a staggering £1500 which is being presented to Martin House. The School Council has now had its first meeting and has chosen Lineham Farm as their charity for this year.www.linehamfarm.co.uk
